a letter about black women

A black woman can not be summed up into words. Her spirit can not be captivated by squeezing it into a quote. You have to look into her eyes and see her sorrow, her pain. You have to lay your head on her chest to hear the power of her heart. You have to listen for the words she does not say, you have to experience her.

She is the lioness of the black community. She does all the heavy lifting, the hunting and the raising of the children. The male lion is still seen as the strongest of the breed; how can we praise the king, but neglect his queen? You see I come from a black woman. I’ve experienced her power, her grace, and her pain. If there is one thing I’ve learned about her it is that no matter the odds or circumstances, she is never out of the fight, because her magic will always shine bright.
